Advice for benefits claimants on the recent changes proposed by government

There is a useful summary of the proposed changes to disability benefits here:

We don’t have much detail about the plans yet and many changes cannot take place until they have been voted on and / or consulted on.

As the plans stand, and they haven’t been voted on in Parliament yet, current PIP claimants will only be impacted by the changes to the eligibility rules from 2026 once their PIP claim is reviewed, but if they stand to lose any PIP, transitional protection may be available – this is being consulted on.

You can always contact us for advice when your claim is next up for review, and we can advise on whether you may be eligible for 4 points in at least one of the PIP daily living descriptors.

For people getting LCWRA as part of their Universal Credit, the Green Paper says, “we will guarantee that no-one who has been found LCWRA prior to April 2026 and remains LCWRA following reassessment will see their UC health element entitlement changed.”

Together with other disability charities, benefits organisations and the Disability Benefits Consortium, we are putting pressure on the Government to abandon all the planned changes that will have a negative impact on disabled people. Hopefully our campaigning will be successful.
